The Book is now over 400% funded and still climbing
42: The wildly improbable ideas of Douglas Adams, the new book announced by Unbound on Monday morning this week, has sped beyond its crowdfunding target in under 12 hours. The new book based on the archives of writer and thinker Douglas Adams (1952–2001) is now more than 400% funded over a year ahead of publication, following an immediate rush of support from fans on the first day.
Developed in close association with Adams’s estate and family, 42: The wildly improbable ideas of Douglas Adams will be a full color large-format hardback. It will reproduce extracts from sixty-seven boxes full of notebooks, letters, scripts, working notes speeches, to-do lists and poems that were loaned by his family to
his old Cambridge college, St John’s after Douglas Adams’s death.

42 will be edited by Kevin Jon Davies

Kevin and an electronic sulking machine.
Frood and fellow Galactic Hitchhiker, Kevin first met Douglas in 1978 and knew him for over twenty years. Galactic Hitchhikers reached out to Kevin about the news of the upcoming book’s smashing 400% funding. He immediately responded, “Freeeeooowwwww!” and told us he’d get back to us in a half an hour.
For a moment, nothing happened. Then, after a second or so, nothing continued to happen. A short bit later, probably a half an hour, Kevin said of the fundraising success so far,
“This astonishing response to the fund-raisers at Kickstarter and at publishers Unbound is a measure of the adoration still felt for Douglas Adams around the world. We were all robbed by his untimely departure from this plane of existence in 2001. We can only wonder how he might have engaged our minds still further across the last two decades. Such a terrible loss. Happily though, this book will allow us another trip into that extraordinary mind, with previously unseen material displaying his uniquely funny and verbally dexterous style.”
You can still back the project
The chance to back the project is still open, backers can pledge support either on Kickstarter, or directly from Unbound. There is no difference in rewards for giving support, either way that you decide to be a part of this amazing project. The Kickstarter will be open for 30 days, while backing on Unbound will remain open past the Kickstarter deadline.
42: The wildly improbable ideas of Douglas Adams is set to be published in 2022, certainly well worth the wait.
