On the planet Dwerin Alpha 3, a Hj’ru is a 276 verse poem offered by a male courting marriage to the parents of the courted.
In this poem he explains his love and adoration for their daughter, describes his life’s work and details his current financial situation. The practice is of dubious value as the resulting poem is often of such poor quality the marriage is forbidden and the poem’s author is banished to a deserted island so as to protect future generations from literary ruin.
The practice is perpetuated mainly due to the efforts of the Tellemso Stationary Corporation, whose primary business is the import of notepads and ball-point pens.
